REDE, within the framework of the TransfireSaúde project, is promoting two multi-stakeholder workshops on the ethical challenges of AI in health in Santiago de Compostela and Braga
On March 18 and 20, the Rede group, within the framework of the TransfireSaúde project, held two in-person workshops at the Galician Agency for Health Knowledge - ACIS (Santiago de Compostela) and at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal). The aim was to create a space for shared reflection on the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in healthcare.
Both meetings brought together local stakeholders with complementary profiles—healthcare professionals, ICT professionals, and patients and their representatives—and followed up on a previous phase of online training. This training was designed to provide a common foundation of concepts and tools for a safer, more reliable, and rights-aligned adoption of AI in healthcare.
The workshops are part of TransfireSaúde's efforts to develop and implement a common framework for the responsible use of AI within the healthcare ecosystem of the Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion. In this context, the project's AI in Health Playbook serves as a practical guide to support decision-making on how to design, develop, and implement ethical, effective, and safe artificial intelligence systems.
During the sessions, participants collectively identified, discussed, and mapped emerging ethical challenges related to the use of AI in healthcare. Through micro-dilemmas, co-creation activities, and the application of a self-assessment tool for AI systems in the healthcare sector, the groups were able to translate these principles into concrete scenarios and compare different clinical, technological, and social perspectives.
The joint participation of professionals, the technology sector, and patients enriched the discussion and highlighted the value of interdisciplinary dialogue in moving toward more understandable, equitable, and people-centered solutions.
With these two sessions, TransfireSaúde continues to advance its training and awareness-raising program on artificial intelligence in healthcare, combining online training with in-person shared learning spaces in the Euroregion.
